Eliminating Excess WCS Industries Case Studies

The Challenge
A prospective customer approached us with an assembled component looking for cost reduction. The original design consisted of a machined part and hobbed gear, which required brazing in a furnace in order to join the two pieces together—a process that was both time-consuming and costly.
Design Criteria
- Fit within existing assembly space
- Lower manufacturing costs
- Increase strength and durability
- Eliminate part failures
The Solution
Our engineering team reviewed the size and tolerance requirements. Leveraging our cold machining manufacturing capabilities, we redesigned the component as a single, solid piece. The new design uses cold heading and precision screw machining to create the required groove. This solution eliminated the need for brazing and simplified the assembly process. It also reduced the number of parts to manage, lowered assembly costs, and increased production efficiency.
